Handy celebrates 25-year partnership with Sleepeezee

Perfecting the formula for a good night’s sleep since 1924, Royal Warrant holder Sleeepeezee Ltd has always relied on strong supplier relationships. Known for high-end, quality beds, the brand’s customer base includes some of the finest 4 and 5-star hotels around the country including the Ritz, Shangri-La at the Shard and the Firmdale Group to name but a few.
For the past 25 years Handy has nurtured a harmonious relationship with the bed manufacturer and now supplies over 50 varying components on a monthly basis.
Key to the relationship has been working closely with the Sleepeezee brand to develop and supply components which are fit for purpose. Handy has played an integral part in helping develop more eco-friendly mattresses.
In a desire to remove potentially harmful FR chemicals from their tape edge fabrics Handy developed a woven tape that incorporated FR yarns thus avoiding any post-production chemical treatments. This product is now becoming an increasing industry standard.
On a similar theme in 2018, Handy installed their environmentally friendly Simalfa water-based gluing system within Sleepeezee’s upholstery manufacturing department.
As a large number of Sleepeezee mattresses are hand-tufted (typical of a high-end producer) and of varying depths, factory operatives were faced with the challenge of identifying those varying lengths of tuft (dependent upon particular mattress model) during the busy tufting process. It was critical that the correct length tuft went into the appropriate mattress type.
Handy overcame this issue by developing a colour-coding system, weaving in a single thread in different colours to denote different lengths of tuft. The introduction of this product greatly aided Sleepeezee’s stringent quality control.
Handy also created a solid beech roller leg for the Sleepeezee premium range of contract beds. Seated on 16 ball-bearings for smooth operation this high-quality leg enables easy movement of the bed base and thus enables efficient hotel room cleaning. Special heavy duty base corner plates were also developed for this project.
Nick-Harland Smith, Managing Director at Handy Limited, said; “We are delighted to have worked with the Sleepeezee team for over 25 years and key to this long-lasting relationship has been communication and a mutual understanding of one another’s business.
“We appreciate that a production facility as large as Sleepeezee must never come to a standstill, so by working closely with the team we have been able to discuss manufacturing issues and identify potential solutions through our tailored components.
“We are always excited to be invited in to the next Sleepeezee new product development project. Our exposure to so many manufacturing facilities around the world supports the Sleepeezee development team as they create new and ever-increasingly comfortable sleeping products.
“It fills us with pride to know that several of the integral parts of such beds hail from Handy Ltd and are consequently fit for royalty. We very much value our relationship and look forward to many further years of working together.”
“It has been a pleasure to work with Nick and his team for over 25 years and their expertise in sourcing components from all over the world has been an invaluable support to our product development processes. They always have a positive approach to each task and offer solutions to our challenges”.
David Morris, Purchasing Director, Sleepeezee Ltd.
