Designing eye catching lurex tape edge for Sleepeezee

In early 2023, we were approached by Sleepeezee to assist them in a new mattress development. They particularly wanted to introduce an element of eye-catching “sparkle” to the finished mattress. We were challenged to create a narrow-woven tape for the tape edging process that incorporated an element of silver lurex, whilst also ensuring that the tape met the stringent fire retardancy standards demanded by our client.
For various environmental and health reasons we do not apply any post weaving FR chemical treatment to our products. Thus, we had to create an overall yarn composition for the final tape that would incorporate an element of the “problematic” lurex yarn but still give us the inherent FR performance required. After various prototypes we came up with a product that fitted the Sleepeezee remit.
